It seems that the pressure has become quite overwhelming for Bandai Namco regarding security issues in the Dark Souls series. Why? Because earlier today, the company made a statement regarding the future of the game series’ online services with both good and bad news for gamers.

The good news is that the cause of the security issues has been found according to Bandai Namco’s latest statement on the Dark Souls Twitter account:

Elden Ring, the biggest non-CoD launch of the past year, Horizon Forbidden West sets a PS5 record

Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware are aware of the technical difficulties experienced by gamers with Dark Souls games on PC. We would like to thank the entire Dark Souls community and players who reached out to us directly to voice their concerns and offer solutions. Thanks to you, we have identified the cause and are working to resolve the issue.

The bad news is that due to the time required to set up proper testing environments, the Dark Souls series online services on PC will not return until after the release of Elden Ring. Bandai Namco said it will continue to make every effort to restore services as soon as possible and make an announcement as soon as the timeline is determined for the resumption of online services.

Additionally, Bandai Namco has confirmed that they have extended the investigation of security issues to Elden Ring. By extension, they assured that the game will have the necessary security measures for all platforms.

So what is the security issue? For those uninformed, a remote code exploit (RCE) issue has been found in the Dark Souls series which could be used to cause significant damage to the PCs of users using the game’s Invaders feature. A few days ago, new findings regarding the nature of the exploit surfaced, including that it could affect the launch of Elden Ring and that it can be run on consoles.
