Data collected and analyzed by the Labor Market Information Division (LMI) of the Alabama Department of Labor shows that in December 2021, the annual comparison of online job postings was 97,405, up by 52% compared to December 2020. The monthly total of online job postings for December 2021 is up by 0.1% with 23,765 new online postings.
The five occupations with the most online job postings continue to be registered nurses, retail clerks, sales representatives, retail supervisors and customer service representatives with 15,881 ads placed for these occupations in December.
HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and from other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.
Seventeen percent of job offers have salaries of $75,000 or more; 15% have salaries between $50 and $75,000; 22% have salaries between $35 and $49,000; and 46% have a salary of $35,000 or less.
The top two employers with the most online ads in December were Huntsville Hospital with 1,499 and UAB Health System with 1,425. The rest of the top 10 were: University of South Alabama (771), University of Alabama at Birmingham (769), Auburn University (545), Lowe’s (522), Encompass Health (502), Regions (493), Baptist Health (421), and DCH Health System with (420).
The mechanics of heating and air conditioning are the focus of this month’s in-depth analysis by the LMI division. The median advertised annual salary is $38,878, with 25% earning more than $45,839. Over the past 12 months, there have been 1,123 online advertisements for this occupation.
Heating and air conditioning mechanics install or repair heating, central air conditioning, HVAC or refrigeration systems, including oil burners, hot air furnaces and heated stoves. They usually need training at vocational schools, related work experience, or an associate’s degree.
